John Donne's Holy Sonnets
Hi All,
Now that I have learned a bit about how to use the Blog with all its settings and a few tweaks, I thought I should post something! So, I will take this as an opportunity to ride my hobby horse i.e., my favourites. Hence below is a link to some of the greatest(?) religious poems ever written. I hope these poems will help U understand John Donne better and give U some more material to back yr arguments with. Please do read Sonnet No. I, No. II, No. VII, No. XI, No. XVII and No. XVIII.

hmmm...donne. definately the best among the 3 poets in the 2nd year course. greatly imaginative. wizard with his words.
thing is, it takes a bit of time to get used to the metaphysical concept that he is primarily known for. i am still not very clear on the distinction between metaphysical and metaphor... but i am deeply captivated by his poems. i especially liked the line in batter my heart where he says something like 'ravage me, make me chaste/pure". lovely!!
but still studying donne has its own share of pains...the entire gender discourse is very bugging, esp in sidney-spenser-donne. men were and remain dogs...lets just read beyond that !!!
What's the scene with the film club?
when does it begin, where will it be held, which day will it be?
